Port of Kapellskär freight up 18 percent

It is full steam ahead for freight handling at Port of Kapellskär. The figures for the first nine months of this year show a freight rise of 18 percent compared to the same period last year. This underlines how valuable the port is for the important supply of goods to the growing Stockholm region.

Port of Kapellskär, Ports of Stockholm’s northernmost port, is busier than ever and has consolidated its position as one of Sweden’s most important freight ports. During the first nine months of this year freight volumes have risen 18 percent compared to the same period last year.

“It is rewarding to see freight volumes via Kapellskär continuing to rise. If these figures continue we will reach an all-time-high this year,” says Peter Lundman, Technical Operations Manager at Port of Kapellskär. “Hats off to our greatest strength, all the fantastic personnel. Ours are skilled and positive colleagues, who can embrace and manage rapid changes.”

The supply of goods shipped by sea, which is so important to the Stockholm area, is functioning very well despite the difficult prevailing circumstances. Port of Kapellskär is important for the supply of goods to the growing Stockholm region. The location of the port, in combination with very short approach lanes, makes it possible to rapidly transport goods and passengers to and from the Stockholm region, as well as to and from the rest of Sweden, Finland, Norway, Russia, the Baltic States and continental Europe.

“There has been an upward curve for all freight services at Port of Kapellskär in this noteworthy year, which is extremely satisfying. Port of Kapellskär is one of the most important maritime links in Europe for the transport of passengers and cargo, and has been designated a comprehensive port within the extensive EU Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
