PNCT invests in 15 more Hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers for expansion at Port of Newark

Mar 05, 2025

Long-standing customer Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) in the US has ordered a further 15 Hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers. The order was booked in Q4 2024 and deliveries are underway, with the last cranes scheduled for handover in April 2026.

PNCT is a large, historic container terminal at New Jersey’s Port of Newark, a very busy port on the U.S. East Coast. It has a demanding operating environment, with harsh winters and humid summers. PNCT has long counted on the performance and reliability of Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers. It commissioned its 200th Konecranes Noell Straddle Carrier in mid-2023.

This strong relationship and Konecranes’ dedicated local service presence reinforced PNCT’s decision to continue investing in its Konecranes Noell straddle carrier fleet, now numbering 124 units in daily operation. The new Hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers will boost performance while reducing operating costs and CO₂ emissions.

“Konecranes sets the industry standard in container handling performance, reliability and eco-efficiency. We also highly value the company maintaining a comprehensive spart parts depot close to the terminal, so any operational downtime can be reduced significantly. This combination of innovation and top-notch service is what makes Konecranes such a great port partner,” says Charlie Ferlisi, Director of Engineering and Equipment Services at PNCT.

The new straddle carriers will be assembled and commissioned between Q4 2025 and Q1 2026.

“This agreement is another significant milestone in our partnership with PNCT. Together we’re focused on eco-efficient, high-performance container handling in the modern era," says Peter Kania, Sales Director, Straddle Carrier Business Unit, Konecranes.
