The Joint Information Center for the Pier G Container Incident is scheduled to transition to agency-managed public information support Tuesday night under the Unified Command’s approval.
The transition reflects how public inquiries will be handled going forward as recovery and salvage operations move into the next phases. The JIC will no longer be a single, centralized media hub. Public information officers will continue to manage inquiries for their respective organizations while remaining aligned with the Unified Command’s objectives.
Salvage operations are continuing with a focus on safety, cargo recovery and environmental stewardship.
The Unified Command – consisting of the U.S. Coast Guard, Port of Long Beach and vessel managers – remains in place to coordinate and direct salvage operations for containers aboard and around the cargo ship Mississippi.
Media are advised to direct future inquiries to the following offices:
U.S. Coast Guard: Public Affairs Detachment Team Los Angeles-Long Beach, [email protected] or 206-815-6689 ext. 1. Social Media: X @USCGSoCal.
Port of Long Beach: Art Marroquin, Media Relations Manager, [email protected]. Website: polb.com. Social Media: LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X handle @PortofLongBeach.
