Passenger plane evacuated at Houston airport due to engine issue, FAA says

More than 100 people were evacuated from a plane on the runway at a Houston airport in the southern United States on Sunday due to an engine issue, federal authorities and the airline said.

No one was reported injured after the crew of United Airlines flight 1382 received an indication about one engine and halted takeoff while still on the runway, the airline said.

"Passengers deplaned on the runway via a combination of slides and stairs" and were taken by bus to the terminal, the company said in a statement.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the incident, which occurred around 8:35 a.m. local time at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

There were 104 passengers and five crew members on the Airbus A319, which was due to depart for New York's La Guardia airport, the airline said.

The Houston fire department wrote on X: "HFD did not put out a fire on this incident."

Last week, an American Airlines regional passenger jet collided in midair with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan Washington National Airport.
