NEXT Trucking’s pilot reduces friction and speeds up containers through drayage

NEXT Trucking Inc., a freight technology platform and digital marketplace connecting shippers and carriers, announced early findings of a pilot program. Branded as NEXTpedited, the program is part of the company’s strategy to deploy technology pragmatically while establishing collaborative partnerships with terminal operators, shipping lines, trucking companies, chassis providers, yard facilities and drivers. The program has been tested at terminals in the San Pedro Port Complex with promising results that could transform drayage at scale.

Steamship lines allow NEXT to play a role in influencing stowage plans, clustering containers and making it easier for terminals to create multiple free-flow peel piles.
Terminals provide the vessels priority berthing and leverage the smart stowage configurations and peel piles to in turn offer trucks speedy and appointment-free access to discharged containers

Warehouses and yards participating in the program offer the truckers live unloads or immediate drop & hook, enabling them to return with the same container and eliminating the need for multiple chassis in the chain. Many trucking companies can complete 3+ round trips per day using a single chassis with NEXT’s supply demand matching engine and smart jobbing algorithms

“With the NEXTpedited pilot we are bringing to life the power of operational partnerships across the value chain - combining process innovation with our data and technology capabilities. We believe this coalition of multiple players who share a philosophy of collaboration and information sharing is critical to solving the backlogs at ports and creating real economic opportunity for all participants in the value chain” said Abs Kapur, CEO of NEXT Trucking. “The early results are promising, the model is removing weeks from the delivery time for shippers, reducing the risk of demurrage and other penalties. The utilization and turn times at ports improve significantly and the driver experience is far superior. Everybody wins.”

The NEXTpedited pilot program is still operating in a closed beta, but interested parties can contact [email protected] to be added to the waitlist.
