New Stockholm Norvik Port - Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal train link

In January a new train service will operate five departures a week between Stockholm Norvik Port and the Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal. This railway link will connect Stockholm Norvik to a larger railway network, offering customers more sustainable and cost-effective transport solutions.

Train service operator, TX Logistik, will introduce a new train service in January 2023, with five departures each week between Stockholm Norvik Port and the Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal. This means that Stockholm Norvik Port can offer a range of sustainable transport solutions, with closer connections to important central warehouse storage in Eskilstuna.

“We are very happy about the new train connections between Stockholm Norvik Port and the Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal. Expanding our operations improves the preconditions for transport to and from Stockholm, both for existing and for newly established companies in Eskilstuna and its surrounding area. Stockholm Norvik Port is a new RoRo and container port that has more destinations to choose between than any other port on the Swedish east coast. The short approach lanes and efficient transport connections make Stockholm Norvik an important logistics hub in the Greater Stockholm area.

“The railway link between Stockholm Norvik Port and the Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal is much sought after. Now we can offer customers new possibilities to transport both containers and trailers and lift over even more cargo from road transport to sea transport,” explains Claes Sörman from Eskilstuna Logistik och Etablering AB.

Stockholm Norvik Port is a modern port with an infrastructure to meet market demands for increased frequency and capacity on the rail network. A 4,400 metre-long industrial railway branch line links Stockholm Norvik to Sweden’s national railway network.

“It is really pleasing that our good collaboration has resulted in this new train service to Stockholm Norvik. Now we can offer both our container customers and our RoRo customers a transport solution that is both sustainable and cost-efficient. With this new train solution at the port, we have a first-class railway service,” states Nicklas Ebersson, Marketing Manager Cargo at Ports of Stockholm.

Starting in April, the Nordic railway company Cargonet, which operates goods trains in Sweden and Norway, will add services from the Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal that will enable direct transport links to Oslo and the entire Nordic market.

“We have seen a growing demand from customers for train transport between Norway and the Greater Stockholm area. There is currently a high flow of goods between the two regions, but the majority of the cargo is transported by road. With this new train link we can offer customers a wider range of sustainable transport solutions, providing much faster connections to Finland, the Baltic States and Norway,” states Carl Fredrik Karlsen, Cargonet Commercial Director.
