New Ship-To-Shore crane arrives at Port of Oakland

Jun 25, 2021

The Zhen Hua 26 carrying the newest ship-to-shore (STS) crane for the Port of Oakland sailed smoothly under the Golden Gate Bridge Thursday, June 24, at about 5:55 a.m. on a partly cloudy/foggy morning. The vessel made a safe passage under the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge at about 6:40 a.m. with an expected clearance between five and ten feet. The ship was scheduled for berth at 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 25, during a higher tide (time subject to change).

The crane was purchased by Everport Terminal Services Inc. (ETS) that operates the Ben. E. Nutter marine terminal at the Oakland Seaport. The schedule for the crane to come off the ship is tentatively set for sometime this weekend.

It will take about two months to reassemble the crane, test it and commission it into service.

The Port of Oakland is seeing record volumes of import cargo due to the unprecedented increase in consumer demand for goods. ETS’ new crane at the Oakland Seaport is an investment in infrastructure that helps keep the Port of Oakland competitive by enhancing its ability to handle larger ships and more cargo.

More cargo moving through the Port of Oakland results in creating jobs, positive economic impact, and community benefits.
