Nov 22, 2023

On November 21, 2023, the National Owner Operators Association (NOOA) convened with key representatives from the Commerce Department's Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness (ACSCC) in a landmark meeting to address pressing concerns affecting independent owner operators across the nation. These representatives also play a vital role in the White House’s Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force.

The meeting served as a platform for NOOA to shed light on the challenges confronting independent truckers, with a particular emphasis on broker reform, the enforcement of FMCSA 49 CFR 371.3, and apprehensions surrounding supply chain disruptions.

NOOA, as a staunch advocate for the rights and well-being of independent owner operators, articulated the urgent need for comprehensive broker reform. The association underscored the importance of fair practices and increased transparency within the industry to ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders. Additionally, NOOA emphasized the critical role of enforcing FMCSA 49 CFR 371.3 to safeguard the rights of owner operators and maintain the integrity of the trucking ecosystem.

Supply chain disruptions have emerged as a significant concern for independent owner operators, affecting their livelihoods and the efficiency of the broader logistics network. NOOA addressed these apprehensions, providing valuable insights and recommendations to the ACSCC representatives.

The ACSCC representatives displayed a commendable level of receptivity to NOOA's concerns, recognizing the gravity of the issues facing independent owner operators. Expressing a genuine interest in fostering a collaborative approach, the ACSCC representatives affirmed their commitment to ongoing discussions with a broader spectrum of stakeholders. This commitment reflects a dedication to crafting effective solutions that will benefit the entire supply chain ecosystem.

As the situation continues to evolve, the National Owner Operators Association remains steadfast in its mission to champion the rights and interests of independent truckers. The association looks forward to continued collaboration with the Commerce Department's Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness and other stakeholders to address the challenges head-on and pave the way for a more resilient and equitable trucking industry.
