MSC LWS – scope: USA to Paraguay

Feb 05, 2024

In the light of decreasing water levels on Paraguay river - resulted in a reduction of permissible drafts for all vessels and barges sailing the river and a decrease in vessels’ cargo capacity - note that MSC will implement a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) effective Feb 1sth 2024 (loading date on the feeder vessel at Montevideo T/S port) and applicable to all containers from USA into all Paraguay port pairs ( Caacupemi Pilar/Caacupemi Asuncion/Puerto Seguro.)

The LWS is an exceptional charge due to the extraordinary conditions of navigation and as we keep monitoring the situation and depending on further developments, it may be removed once the sailing conditions return to normal.

This is a local charge invoiced and collected directly in Paraguay – this charge will not be manifested at origin.

The current tariff levels are as follows:

· 500 USD/per TEU
