Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart convened local transportation leaders to discuss infrastructure and planning
MIAMI – On October 17, Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González and five other local transportation leaders met with U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao for a regional infrastructure briefing hosted at Miami International Airport, at the request of Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart. In addition to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and Board of County Commissioners Chairman Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., other regional transportation stakeholders in attendance were: Florida Department of Transportation District 6 Secretary James Wolfe; Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) Executive Director Javier Rodriguez; PortMiami Director Juan M. Kuryla; Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works Director Alice Bravo; and Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization Director Aileen Bouclé. Director González had the opportunity to share with Secretary Chao MIA’s recent successes and challenges, and how federal funding and staffing are improving the passenger experience at America’s third-busiest international gateway. “It was a privilege to discuss with Secretary Chao the impact that federal support is having at one of our nation’s busiest hubs for passengers and cargo,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González. “I appreciate Congressman Diaz-Balart for organizing this opportunity to have our nation’s top transportation official see our plans and improvements first-hand.”
