Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said he’s very likely to meet with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump soon to promote their new trade deal, as well as to thank him for sending ventilators to Mexico.
Lopez Obrador said Wednesday the date of the visit was still uncertain since he’d also like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to join in order to launch the North American trade agreement known as USMCA.
“It is very important for us participate in the beginning of this historical agreement, which is very timely because it will help us in the recovery of our economy and the creation of jobs,” Lopez Obrador said during his daily press conference.
This would be Lopez Obrador’s first trip abroad since he took office in December 2018. He said he’ll inform the public about the exact date of the U.S. trip in coming days, possibly today or tomorrow.
