Marsoft’s GreenScreen now listed by Gold Standard

Aug 08, 2023

The Marsoft ClimeCo GreenScreen® program has reached a major milestone with formal listing by the Gold Standard, a leading carbon registry. GreenScreen provides a new and significant incentive for shipowners to invest in one or more retrofits that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Proceeds from the first issuance and sales of carbon credits under the revised methodology ‘Program for Retrofit Energy Efficiency Measures in Shipping’ are anticipated to be delivered to shipowners before the end of 2023.

The model that forms the basis for the GreenScreen methodology accurately quantifies the fuel and CO2 savings made from installing selected retrofits that exceed industry standard practice. The GreenScreen model estimates the number of carbon credits to be received by the vessel over a 5-year docking cycle. Each year, the estimate is verified against the vessel’s actual operating data ensuring the accuracy of the model. A Gold Standard approved independent third party verifies the emission reduction claims as well, ensuring a robust process. The emission reductions are then certified by the Gold Standard, and carbon credits are issued. Marsoft’s collaboration with ClimeCo, a leader in the carbon markets, secures premium pricing for the resulting carbon credits in the voluntary carbon markets.

Leading owners committed to fast-track decarbonization strategies have enrolled 55 ships in the program. They expect to deliver 350,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions reduction in the next five years. Stavros Niotis, Chief Sustainability Officer of Prime Marine Management, is pleased to be part of the program: “We are excited to hear of the GreenScreen program reaching this outstanding milestone. This is a great initiative taken by Marsoft, providing valuable incentives to ship owners for improving their fleet performance and reducing their CO2 emissions. Prime has long been at the forefront of the technology developments for enhancing fleet performance, and the GreenScreen program directly supports our decarbonization goals.”

Marsoft is now enrolling retrofits completed in 2022 and 2023 or planned for the near future and providing support for retrofit decision-making.
