Maersk’s Teamsters Canada Rail Conference strike action contingency planning update

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) previously announced that it has voted to authorize a strike mandate as early as March 16, 2022. The TCRC represents approximately 3,000 of Canadian Pacific’s locomotive engineers and conductors. The parties continue to participate in the mediation process with the assistance of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) with planned meetings taking place between March 11-16th. 

Our Canada leadership team, along with our network, marine, terminal, rail, operations, and customer service teams are meeting daily to discuss the situation and identify appropriate contingency plans. We are also in touch with our carrier partners.

Current trade lane contingencies:

• CAE (Service 921): Imports and Exports intermodal units will move via CN rail service as usual.
• MCX (923): Truck can be offered at limited capacity and basis first come/first serve. Truck extra charges and weight limits will be advised shortly.
• TP1: The RDO conception (203N/206S) will be calling Prince Rupert March 16th. All imports will discharge in Prince Rupert and move via CN rail service to their respective place of delivery. The RDO Conception will then return to Far East Asia. No further TP1 vessels are anticipated in March.
• TP9: Contingency plans are under review. Will provide more details as soon as possible.
