KAAMCO Cargo Committee meeting cancellation announcement and update

Nov 25, 2020

The next KAAMCO Cargo Committee meeting normally scheduled to be held in November, 2020 is cancelled due to the continued Executive Order and distancing requirements.  Also, as a reminder the annual KAAMCO Cargo Holiday Party for 2020 is also cancelled due to the continued Executive Order on gathering limitations.  We are working to start up a virtual meeting in January 2021 if the Executive Order continues.

JFK continues to remain open with passenger flights slowly being re-instated with continued passenger/cargo and cargo in cabin (CIC) only flights. Scheduled Cargo Freighter, Extra section and Adhoc freighter activity continues to provide cargo movements not available on reduced passenger flights. PPE cargo shipments are starting to re appear as the pandemic continues.  The Port Authority on its daily airport community call is reporting out both passenger and cargo information and is a good way to hear about items going on at JFK Airport.  Please participate or listen in to hear about the regular daily operations plan and terminal/cargo updates.

Customs Border Protection Trade Division has been fully operational and will continue to hold conference calls as needed to identify and discuss concerns regarding Customs issues.  There is a bulletin that went out last month about the addition of a new CBP seal (the Green Seal).  Please reference the bulletin for info on who should get this seal.

The Port Authority of NY&NJ The airport security group and the TSA have begun visiting cargo facilities to review security plans and also to identify a clarification to the cargo acceptance area’s in each facility.  They will be gathering this information through the end of November and then sending out a bulletin on the requirements for the facilities to comply with per the CFR.  Once we get this bulletin we will get to everyone.  In addition to this, the Port Authority has also begun discussions at a high level on making the cargo areas only SIDA area’s instead of full airport Secure Area’s.  There are not a lot of details on this as of yet as the discussions have just begun but the Port Authority has stated that they will be sending some info to KAAMCO that we can share with all of the facilities so that we can review and provide our feedback.  As soon as we get this, we will share it with the group.

Carriers and Ground Handlers are monitoring the resumption and return of service and flights to plan the next quarter activities and staffing requirements. Ground handlers may have staffing opportunities for those affected by furlough, please check with the different ground handlers for those opportunities.

The Post Office has been busy with increasing inbound mail from China and mail being trucked from ORD to JFK. International mail has also been routed via ocean and is brought to the JFK USPS for distribution. At this time, we are not hearing of any long delays in tendering or of excess equipment being left at the postal facility.  If you do hear of excessive delays, please let us know.  And as a reminder, it is everyone’s responsibility to clear out their equipment from the postal facility once empty so that we do not run into any issues with excess equipment cluttering up the area there.

Most KAAMCO and Airport Community activities continue to be postponed or cancelled thru 2020. We will work on communicating any items that come up and when we will be restarting our regular meeting schedule.
