IICL releases anew guide for Gensets

Apr 19, 2021

The Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) announces the release of the 1st Edition of its General Guide for Gensets Inspection and Repairs Standards. The manual provides useful information to Genset users and personnel involved with the inspection and repair processes. A designated working group composed of IICL members persevered over COVID related travel restrictions, including limitations to visit depots, and worked through virtual meetings to accomplish the task. The Genset manual sets clear standards that will facilitate the interchange process of this equipment type.

Refrigerated containers play a critical role in the supply chain and gensets provide the energy required to keep refrigerators running when in transit or not plugged to an outlet.

According to Luiz Goncalves, IICL Director Technical Services, the guide was designed to eliminate gray areas that exist at the time of off hires by setting clear tolerances and repair limitations. “We are hopeful that this will become a valuable tool to reefer professionals for years to come,” said Mr. Goncalves.

The guide addresses the 2 common types of generator sets, the “Underslung” that is attached to the frame of chassis and the “Clip-on” that is attached to the front of a refrigerated container.
