IBA’s latest Aviation Industry Barometer revealed that international flight volumes have grown a dramatic 12.5% year on year while domestic travel showed more modest growth at +4.5% year-on-year.
IBA’s leading aviation intelligence platform, IBA Insight, further showed that in the second quarter of 2024:
• Overall, there were approximately 8.89 million commercial passenger flights during Q2-2024, a YoY increase of +7.2% compared to Q2-2023.
• Monthly global passenger capacity recovery remained above pre-pandemic ASKs across Q2-2024, with June-2024 ASKs at 105% vs 2019.
• During June 2024, operator capacity in Europe and the APAC region was broadly at 2019 levels. ASKs from North America and the Middle East were trending between 105%-110% vs 2019, while capacity from Latin America and Africa reached 115%-120% vs 2019.
• Commercial aircraft deliveries continue to fall with 304 commercial aircraft deliveries across Q2-2024, representing a variance of -16% and -31% to Q2-2023 and Q2-2018 respectively.
• In H1-2024 2024, Airbus A320neo deliveries have averaged at 45 per month, compared to Boeing's 737 MAX at 22 per month.
• Passenger ASKs from Chinese operators were trending 6% above 2019 levels during Q2-2024.
• 1.35m commercial passenger flights were recorded by Chinese operators in Q2-2024, compared to 1.18m in Q2-2023 and 1.19m in Q2-2019.
