HVS and Dawson Technologies sign MoU to drive forward the development of GTh hydrogen demonstrator racing vehicles

Oct 07, 2024
Dawson Technologies and HVS – Pushing the boundaries of Design and Technology

Under the terms of the MoU, HVS and Dawson Technologies will collaborate to accelerate the development of the GTh demonstrator vehicles while exploring opportunities for future joint
projects. This partnership aims to generate revenue for both parties and ensure a return on their investments, all while advancing the frontier of hydrogen vehicle technology. The companies will adopt a shared branding strategy, featuring the D3/HVS logo across marketing and promotional activities, reinforcing a cohesive approach to showcasing their innovations.

"The development of the GTh demonstrator vehicles is a key milestone in our commitment to help deliver zero-emission technologies. Our partnership with Dawson Technologies will provide valuable
R&D tools that will enable us to bring our vehicles to market faster, providing tangible benefits for both companies and the wider industry." said Ian Palmer, Managing Director of HVS. Dawson Technologies has committed to making its vehicles available for HVS' technical testing and promotional activities. Likewise, HVS will reciprocate by offering its hydrogen HGV demonstrators to Dawson Technologies for similar purposes. This exchange will allow both organizations to showcase their capabilities while advancing the technical refinement of these vehicles.

HVS’ Powertrain Technology

As hydrogen-powered motorsport categories, such as the anticipated Le Mans 24 Hours Hydrogen class in 2027 begin to emerge, Dawson Technologies is partnering with HVS to advance their
GTh racing series demonstrator vehicles. This collaboration will be particularly advantageous in preparing these innovative hydrogen vehicles for future competitions, ensuring they are at the forefront of technological advancements as the motorsport industry shifts towards zero-emission racing. Ian J Dawson, CEO/CTO of Dawson Technologies, commented, "This is a fantastic opportunity to combine our expertise with HVS in developing cutting-edge hydrogen technologies.

The completion of these demonstrators will be a game-changer in demonstrating the viability of hydrogen propulsion technology in both GT racing cars and heavy-duty transport." The collaboration will also see the companies share data and innovations developed throughout the partnership, ensuring that both HVS and Dawson Technologies benefit from the outcomes.

“This program of work allows us to apply the advanced powertrain and control technology we have developed for our own products and adapt it to a new application,” said Steve Fletcher,
HVS’ CTO, “however, the boundary conditions for high performance racing cars provide us with a great platform for Research & Development and allow us to assess emerging technologies that advance our combined teams knowledge”. The partnership is set for an initial period of five years, with strong potential for renewal as both organizations work towards achieving their goals. This timeframe provides ample opportunity to meet current objectives while fostering the foundation for long-term collaboration on future projects.
