Talgo has awarded a new contract to the multinational technology firm GMV, for supplying intelligent transportation systems (ITS) for the new sleeper trains that Talgo is building for Egyptian National Railways (ENR). The agreement covers integration of the public address, intercom, video surveillance (CCTV), and mobile communication gateway (MGC) systems, which are all based on GMV’s own technological developments.
The public address and intercom systems will allow the train crews to issue notices and warnings to the passengers, and to maintain ordinary and emergency onboard communications. The video-surveillance system will include a digital network video recorder (NVR), as well as IP cameras distributed throughout each train and touchscreen monitors with real-time viewing in the control cabins. The MCG system will collect onboard diagnostic information, which will be transmitted to a central location for further analysis.
All of these systems will be fully integrated into the train’s monitoring and control processes, to ensure interoperability with the rest of the onboard equipment and to facilitate efficient management of the rail operations.
This new contract will strengthen the ongoing collaboration that now exists between Talgo and GMV on various projects, which include manufacturing of new series of rolling stock and modernization of existing trains.
This project will also enhance GMV’s position as a trusted technological partner for rail manufacturers and operators worldwide, while expanding the company’s presence on key projects for modernizing passenger transportation in Egypt.
