Global Container Terminals: Best Managed Company for the 3rd Year in a Row

May 14, 2026

Global Container Terminals (GCT) has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 2026. This marks the third consecutive year receiving this prestigious award, a milestone that reflects its organizational health, sustained growth, and unwavering commitment to the customers and communities served.

For GCT, this recognition is more than just an award; it reflects how they operate every day with a focus on safety, performance, and continuous improvement across its terminals. It is driven by the dedication of their people, those working on the waterfront and behind the scenes, as well as the trust of their partners.

Investing in the Future of Trade

Being "Best Managed" means taking a long-term approach to building capacity and supporting the global supply chain. They are currently advancing several landmark initiatives to better serve you:

Modernizing Infrastructure: They are investing $170 million in six new Megamax ship-to-shore cranes along with new technology. As the largest on the West Coast, these cranes are designed to handle vessels up to 25,000 TEU, ensuring faster turnaround times and more reliable service.

A Legacy of Evolution: Their recent milestone celebration of 50 years of Vanterm recognizes five decades of shaping container trade on Canada’s West Coast. From its early days in 1975 to today's modern operations, the terminal continues to evolve through innovation, investment, and the people behind it.

A Global Commitment to Sustainability: Their operations are grounded in our Global Commitment. They are well on their way to achieving our target of a 45% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030, with a clear path to net zero by 2050 through electrification and renewable fuels.

A Legacy of Leadership

“Earning Canada’s Best Managed Company designation for a third year in a row is a proud milestone for our entire organization. It speaks to the dedication, resilience, and collaboration of our team, who continue to raise the bar year after year, earning the trust of our customers and strengthening our partnerships as we build for the future.” — Eric Waltz, President & CEO, GCT Global Container Terminals
