German retail sales fall unexpectedly in April

(Corrects paragraph 2 to indicate that retail sales were expected to rise, not fall)

German retail sales fell by 1.1% in April compared with the previous month, data showed on Friday.

Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted a 0.2% increase.

The federal statistics office publishes more details on its website.
