From Mexico City to Madrid: Priceless artifacts transported to Spain by IAG Cargo

Nov 04, 2025

IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG) in collaboration with Iberia, has successfully transported a collection of priceless artefacts from Mexico City to Madrid for the exhibition “Half the World: Women in Indigenous Mexico” . This major cultural initiative strengthens artistic and historical ties between Mexico and Spain.

The pieces, each representing the richness and diversity of Mexico’s ancient heritage, were moved in partnership with Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) following an agreement between the embassies of Mexico and Spain.

The artefacts were transported using IAG Cargo’s high-security cargo solution, Secure, a product that provides enhanced protection for high-value and vulnerable shipments. It ensures specialist handling, constant surveillance, and secure storage within dedicated facilities to guarantee the utmost care from origin to destination.

Having arrived in Madrid aboard four Iberia A350s, the art collection will be showcased within three of Madrid's most prestigious cultural institutions: Museo Arqueológico Nacional - Spain’s leading archaeological museum, Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza - renowned globally for its extensive collection spanning the Renaissance to modern day, and Instituto Cervantes - dedicated to promoting the Spanish language and culture around the globe.

The exhibition opened on Friday 31st October and will remain open until the first quarter of 2026.

Speaking of the importance of the shipment and logistics firm’s role in connecting cultures, Camilo Garcia, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at IAG Cargo, said:

“At IAG Cargo, we take great pride in connecting cultures and communities through the movement of precious and meaningful cargo.

“Whether it’s fine art, historical artefacts, or cultural treasures, our priority is always the same - ensuring every item reaches its destination safely, securely, and on time.

“Collaborations such as this one with INAH reflect our wider commitment to using our global reach to connect people, preserve culture and make a positive impact far beyond logistics.”

Sonia Sánchez, Director of Communication, Institutional Relations, and Social Impact at Iberia, commented:

“Iberia works every day to make our commitment to generating prosperity a reality, connecting people and cultures from all over the world. We are proud to have been responsible for transporting this exhibition from Mexico City, one of our most emblematic destinations in Latin America. With this project, we actively contribute to strengthening the cultural and friendship ties between Spain and Mexico, reaffirming our role as a bridge between Europe and Latin America.”
