EU’s Ribera calls for strong climate commitment in talks with China

China and the European Union must show the "strongest possible" commitment to the Paris Agreement and its objectives, European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera said in climate talks with Chinese officials in Beijing on Monday.

Both sides must acknowledge that the pace of global climate action remains too slow, and must jointly show leadership, Ribera said.

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang reiterated that China will announce its 2035 target for bringing down national levels of planet-warming carbon emissions ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Brazil later this year.
