Entire ARTBA safety team earns OSHA construction trainer credential 

The five professionals on the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) safety team have successfully completed the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 500 Class, allowing them to teach the agency’s 10-hour and 30-hour classes to transportation construction workers across the country.

“ARTBA and OSHA have a long partnership working together to help fund and teach safety and health courses for transportation project sites,” said Brad Sant, ARTBA’s senior vice president of safety and education. “Now that the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is the law of the land, safety training will be paramount given the expected increase in the number of work sites in coming years.”

To become OSHA Construction Outreach Trainers, ARTBA’s safety team demonstrated competency by meeting rigorous prerequisites: five years of significant construction safety experience and completion of 30 hours of training on OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as construction safety and health principles.

The staff attended a four-day training class that covered the standards and responsibilities of conducting OSHA training. To successfully complete the class, each person passed a written exam and presented a training module on a topic in the OSHA-10 or 30-hour program.

“Our team members' dedication to safer transportation project sites for both workers and motorists is readily apparent in their pursuit of this OSHA training designation,” said Sant, who also was re-accredited. “I’m proud of them for this professional development accomplishment. ARTBA members should be, too.”

The association has provided training for more than 50,000 industry professionals during the past decade, Sant says.
