Syroco, the maritime technology company specialising in voyage optimisation, today announced that DNV has verified its methodology for estimating the savings generated by its Syroco Live platform.
Following a review of Syroco's ‘Savings Calculation Methodology, Voyage Optimisation’, DNV confirmed that Syroco has developed a method providing a means to consistently estimate the benefits of its voyage optimisation service. The review covered two of the platform's voyage operating modes: Just-In-Time-Arrival, which routes a vessel to arrive at a set time with the lowest fuel consumption, and Best Time, which routes a vessel to arrive as early as possible.
Alex Caizergues, Founder and CEO, Syroco, said: "Savings claims in our industry are only as good as the method behind them. Having DNV review and verify our methodology gives our customers the confidence that the benefits we report are calculated consistently and transparently, voyage after voyage. It is a foundation we can build on with shipowners, charterers and their partners."

A central challenge in weather routing and voyage optimisation is the absence of a widely recognised industry standard, in particular how to define the counterfactual voyage: how a ship would have sailed without the optimisation service. Syroco's method addresses this by using its digital twin model to reconstruct the voyage actually sailed and to build a like for like reference voyage, with measured fuel consumption used as a quality check. DNV's assessment is that the approach provides transparency by making both the reconstructed actual voyage and the reference voyage available to platform users.
The verification concerns the soundness and consistency of the estimation method. It does not certify any specific savings figure, which depends on each vessel, voyage and operating profile.
Mikael Johansson, Senior Principal Consultant Maritime Advisory, DNV said: "In the absence of established standards for assessing the benefits of voyage optimisation, the way solution providers define and represent the counterfactual voyage is decisive. Our review of the Syroco solution found that the methods developed handle this consistently and make the underlying data available to the platform user."
Syroco Live is an AI-powered voyage routing and weather optimisation platform that uses digital twin simulation to model a vessel in real time. Capable of computing hundreds of thousands of route scenarios in minutes, it identifies the optimal voyage path, delivering average fuel savings of around 10% without increasing voyage time.
