DHL expands and relocates in Richmond, VA

New location is 87% larger than previous space; enables greater quality service and earlier delivery times; $7M investment will accommodate continued growth in the market

DHL Express, the world's leading provider of international express shipping services, has expanded in Richmond, VA by moving into a larger, more conveniently-located facility.  The $7M investment in the new service center includes the addition of state-of-the-art equipment that maximizes processing capabilities and enables earlier deliveries — ultimately benefiting international shippers in the Richmond metropolitan area.

The relocated DHL Express facility at 2740 Charles City Road, Richmond, Virginia, is a full-service  operation with a customer counter, and is strategically located near Richmond International Airport (RIC). To accommodate an increase in shipment volumes, the new leased space is 87% larger than the company’s previous Richmond location, enabling the operation to increase capacity and improve first-stop delivery times for international services by at least 30 minutes in the local market.

“By strategically choosing to relocate near the airport and significantly expanding our facility space in Richmond, we are ensuring our customers receive the highest levels of service while investing in our future growth,” said Richard Saavedra, VP and General Manager for DHL Express in the Southeast U.S. “This expansion will allow us to better serve the greater Richmond market’s international shipping needs with improved delivery times and greater customer service.”

The new facility handles U.S. domestic as well as time-definite international shipments to and from the 220 countries and territories served by DHL. The location provides a total of 40 pickup and delivery (PUD) vehicle load positions, and its advanced material handling system can process up to 3,900 pieces per hour (PPH).

The facility is planning to introduce electric pickup and delivery vehicles along with EV chargers throughout the warehouse. It’s all part of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s sustainability roadmap, which targets 60% of its global delivery fleet to be electrically powered by 2030.
