DB Schenker joins IRU in focus on global logistics decarbonisation

Jan 18, 2022

Global multimodal logistics operator DB Schenker has joined IRU, the world road transport organization, as its newest corporate member.

The company aims to collaborate more closely with the wider road transport sector on a range of issues and opportunities, including decarbonization, digitalization and the industry’s image and ability to attract and retain workers.

DB Schenker CEO Jochen Thewes said, “Joining IRU is important for us to better engage within the road transport sector and beyond. Working with IRU and its members will notably help us continue decarbonising our operations, with our sub-contractors and partners, sharing knowledge and experiences with the wider industry.”

Jochen Thewes spoke at the recent launch event for IRU’s Green Compact to make global commercial road transport carbon neutral by 2050.

IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto said, “We are very excited to welcome DB Schenker into the IRU family. I look forward to collaborating with them in many areas, in particular on rolling out our Green Compact plan on carbon neutrality for global commercial road transport.”

DB Schenker joins 15 other multinational firms who have become IRU members in the past year, from China, Europe and the US.
