COSCO SHIPPING calls Port of La Spezia, with 20,000 TEU vessels on regular basis

Mar 18, 2024

Starting from March, COSCO SHIPPING's 20,000 TEU container ships will begin regular calls at the port of La Spezia. This news was recently announced by the Chinese liner, confirming the inclusion of four units of these types of vessels in the rotation of the Asia Mediterranean Service (AEM1). Each ship is approximately 400 meters long. This decision is in response to the need to adapt to a new normality, driven by the necessity to circumnavigate Africa, leading to the creation of two new independent loops in the Mediterranean, employing larger capacity container ships.

"We are proud and ready to welcome the COSCO SHIPPING Aries, the first in a series of ultra-large container vessels deployed in the AEM1 (MED1) service operated by the Chinese carrier within the Ocean Alliance," commented Matteo Ferrando, Key Account Manager at Contship Italia. "Our terminal has already demonstrated its ability to handle operationally this type of container ship, thus reaffirming our commitment to meeting every need and delivering the excellence in service that our customers expect."
