Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) reschedules 2020 Connie Awards events to next year

Aug 11, 2020

The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) announced today that, due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has postponed its 2020 Long Beach and Newark Connie Awards events until next year.

Rescheduled for September 14th, 2021, the Connie Awards dinner will be held at Renaissance Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach CA. The Connie Awards luncheon held at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in Newark, NJ is now slated for December 6, 2021.

"With safety as our first priority, CII has determined it is in everyone's best interest to postpone the Connie Awards events to next year. We look forward to hosting these events in 2021, as we continue our mission of honoring industry leaders as well as recognizing up-and-coming talent with our scholarship program," said CII President, Steve Blust.

CII, founded in 1960, has been presenting the Connie Award since 1972 and it has become the most coveted honor in the field of containerization and its ancillary industries. Among some 65 recipients to date are Malcom McLean, Bruce Fenimore, Mike Wilson, Bill Shea, Ed DeNike, James McKenna, John Wolfe, Richard Steinke, Helen Bentley, Captain S.Y. Kuo, Matthew Cox and Robert Pfeiffer.

In addition to honoring industry visionaries, CII is committed to carrying out its industry education mission with its scholarship program designed to recognize students studying logistics as well as the institutions that are educating our future leaders. Under its auspices, CII has awarded nearly $1 million toward scholarships.
