China ports container volume rises 14.6% in March

Ningbo Containerized Freight Index decrease in April

In March of 2021, the cargo volume of China ports was 1276.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 16.2%, the container throughput of China ports was 23.5million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%. The chart below shows the cargo throughput and container throughput data of the eight major ports in China.

In terms of container freight rates, the average value of the Ningbo Container Freight index (NCFI) in April was quotes 2060.7 points, have a decrease of 11.4% compare to last month. From Ningbo to the North America route, the market maintained strong transportation demand, the supply-demand relationship of routes tended to be on the supply side, and freight rates remained high. The average freight rate of 40GP from Ningbo Port to Los Angeles port in March was $3925, have an increase of 1.8% compare to last month, from Ningbo Port to New York port was $4964, slight declined by 0.9% month-on-month.
