Carboninsets powers Baxter Freight’s sustainability initiative through industry leading multimodal EAC agreement

Sep 23, 2025

Carboninsets, an independent matchmaker service for verified Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), has today announced its partnership with Baxter Freight to supply high-quality EACs across the main transport modalities: rail, marine, road, and air, for one of its prominent cargo owner customers. The first partnership of its kind to be achieved globally.

Typically, a business will procure EAC’s from a single modality, but this is slowly changing to a holistic supply chain approach. Carboninsets’ partnership with Baxter Freight allows customers of Baxter Freight to decarbonise their entire end-to-end, multimodal supply chain.

The partnership supports Baxter Freight’s established ‘Sustainable Freight Network’, a dedicated initiative designed to educate customers in making meaningful progress towards carbon smart logistics by providing them with robust reporting and decarbonisation solutions. The Baxter Freight partnership with Carboninsets ensures that its customers can now benefit from a transparent, high-quality EAC procurement process that is both efficient and impactful.

Maria Lacalle Muls, Head of Customer Decarbonization at Carboninsets.

Carboninsets’ unique proposition supports the decarbonisation of freight transportation and business travel across all modalities, geographies and fuel types. As a multimodal partner, Carboninsets offers a broad range of EACs, including sea, air, road, rail and inland waterways.

The service accommodates all major low-carbon technologies, including biodiesel, HVO, SAF, bio-LNG, electrification, hydrogen and bio-methanol. All EACs adhere to the latest Book and Claim standards and have been externally verified and issued onto the 123Carbon registry to ensure the integrity and transparency of the certificates. Working with the 123Carbon registry ensures each EAC adheres to the highest standard for quality, compliance, and accountability.

Due to Carboninsets’ standardized contractual process, lead times were significantly reduced despite engaging with four different issuers for each modality, thereby delivering a fully transparent and streamlined sourcing process.

Maria Lacalle, Head of Customer Decarbonisation, Carboninsets, said: “Our partnership with Baxter Freight highlights exactly what we stand for at Carboninsets: credibility, transparency, and simplicity in emissions reduction. By making high-quality EACs accessible across all key transport modes, we are helping companies turn climate commitments into concrete action.

“Investing in multimodal EACs is a measurable and impactful way to drive decarbonisation and accelerate emissions reduction across logistics. This partnership acts as a blueprint for other companies that are committed to making meaningful reductions in their carbon emissions to achieve data-driven, sustainable freight. By leveraging high-quality EACs across all key transport modes, Carboninsets and Baxter Freight are helping cargo owners actively engage in credible emissions reduction whilst establishing a blueprint for the future of sustainable logistics.”

Tom Isler, Innovation & Sustainability Manager, Baxter Freight said: “The Sustainable Freight Network’s mission is to transform customer’s supply chains by embedding carbon accountability into every shipment. Moreover, we aim to achieve this under our strict core values, Integrity, Accountability, Transparency and Innovation. Alongside our GLEC reports and industry expertise in value chain mitigation, we heavily rely on our partnership with Carboninsets to provide multimodal EAC’s. Carboninsets is pivotal in unlocking the full potential of the SFN, allowing us to tackle the hard-to-abate residual emissions that are preventing customers from reaching net zero.”

What we value most from the partnership is that Carboninsets hold themselves to the same high standards of integrity and innovation as Baxter Freight. We can facilitate same modality EAC’s, all third party verified, all under the Smart Freight Centre’s backing. It is trust and specificity like this, that is allowing the SFN to help our customers in a new and unique way”.
