Bolloré Logistics continues it’s carbon offsetting program for all LCL shipments

Jun 27, 2022

Bolloré Logistics continues to implement the carbon neutrality program it launched in 2020 in order to offset all residual CO2 emissions produced by the LCL (less than container) shipments of its subsidiary TSL – specialized in maritime consolidation. This year, the company decided to commit to a sustainable energy project in China in partnership with First Climate1. Since 2020, 26,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent have been offset in partnership with various environmental organizations.

This new project involves the construction of biodigesters, which are manufactured and operated by farmers in 17 municipalities in Hainan Province. The system implemented uses organic waste to produce biogas and reduce CO2 emissions from the release of methane from livestock manure. In this way, methane emitted from the decomposition of livestock residues can be used as household fuel and replace the use of fossil gas.

In addition, the project will support local communities by saving energy costs for the people of Hainan and providing sustainable employment in the repair and maintenance of the biodigesters. It will also help to improve air quality and restore the ecosystem by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.

"We are moving forwards in our carbon neutrality program with this biodigester construction project, which will have positive impacts on both the environment and society. We ensure that it is properly implemented by setting up audits that are conducted by our partner First Climate and by an independent firm. It was recently awarded the Gold Standard – the highest certification for carbon offsetting projects – for its quality,” said Franco Montalbano, Worldwide Director of TSL LCL.

This initiative is fully in line with Bolloré Logistics' “Powering Sustainable Logistics” CSR program. Launched in 2018, the program incorporates Bolloré Logistics' ethical, social and environmental issues with the aim of helping to reducing greenhouse gas emissions linked to its activities and supporting its customers towards carbon neutrality in their supply chain.
