Biggest cranes ever arrive at Port of Oakland

Dec 30, 2020

The crane ship bringing the largest container cranes ever to Oakland sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge this morning a little before 8 a.m. Shortly thereafter the vessel passed under the Bay Bridge.

The cranes fully assembled were too large to fit under the bridges. The ship’s crew “lowered the booms” yesterday while the vessel was anchored in Drakes Bay. Today they are anchoring out in the SF Bay and raising the booms.

The ship with the biggest cranes for Oakland is to remain at anchor for several days while final preparations are made for the vessel to come into the Port of Oakland, dock and offload the cranes.
