BARIG further strengthens its involvement in air cargo

Air cargo is of great importance to the German and global economies, but it faces challenging framework conditions. For this reason, the international airline association BARIG (Board of Airline Representatives in Germany) is continuing to systematically expand its involvement in the air cargo sector. In addition to its active work within the BARIG Air Cargo Committee, it is also focusing on collaboration with other associations such as the Air Cargo Community Frankfurt (ACCF).

During the most recent general assembly of ACCF, BARIG Chairman and Executive Director Michael Hoppe was re-elected for the Executive Board for the “Airlines” segment. Hoppe is a founding team member of the ACCF and has been engaged in the community since 2014. He represents the interests of more than 100 national and international passenger airlines and, additionally, over 30 leading global cargo carriers in Germany.

“Being actively connected with other associations, such as the Air Cargo Community Frankfurt, is very important. Especially in an increasingly volatile world, we must strengthen the resilience of supply chains and continuously expand and improve the exchange between all stakeholders,” Michael Hoppe emphasizes. “At the same time, the BARIG Air Cargo Committee brings together the expertise of its member cargo carriers to advance strategic, political, and administrative issues at regional, national, and global level.“

With Jorge Carretero (LATAM Cargo) and Thilo Schäfer (Condor Cargo) as co-chairmen, the BARIG Air Cargo Committee gathers the know-how of experienced cargo managers from the cargo member airlines. Their shared goal is to address key areas such as digitalization, automation, and process optimization more efficiently, which involves close collaboration with stakeholders from other areas as well.

“Air freight is a key pillar of the economy, but it is currently facing geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and increasing regulatory requirements. Only through reliable cooperation along the entire logistics chain we can successfully manage these numerous challenges,” Michael Hoppe explains. “BARIG is strongly committed to actively further improving the framework conditions for an efficient, modern, and productive air freight industry, and represents the interests of airlines towards politicians both nationally and internationally.”
