After nine months of construction, St. Cloud, Minnesota-based Anderson Trucking Service (ATS) has officially opened its brand-new Indiana maintenance facility in Porter. The third-generation, family-owned company opened its facility in early March. Sitting on 30 acres near the Interstate 94 and U.S. Highway 20 interchange, the new setup replaces their previous one in Gary.
The 36,000 square foot world-class maintenance facility is not only 14,000 square feet bigger than the Gary setup, all onsite operations are now combined into one building, as opposed to the three they were previously in. Its driver lounges feature showers, washers and dryers, big-screen televisions and more, and hosts onsite training for new drivers — with plans to add a driving simulator. It also has room to park more than 150 tractors and trailers — 50 percent more than their previous facility. While the current terminal occupies 15 of the 30 acres, ATS has the extra property to provide an option to expand in the future, if needed.
“We’re excited to finally open our brand-new building with the latest technology and equipment for our maintenance staff,” said ATS President & COO, Brent Anderson. “This provides our technicians a facility that’s safer and more efficient for the type of work they’re doing. We’re also happy to provide drivers the amenities they deserve when taking a break or getting their equipment worked on.”
The new building creates room for more mechanics, parts and shop supervisory positions — which they are currently looking to fill. ATS is also hiring experienced Class A over-the-road (OTR) drivers for its enclosed van, open deck specialized and heavy haul fleets.
