AIT Worldwide Logistics joins Global Cold Chain Alliance

Global logistics leader invests in decades-long commitment to cold-chain excellence

Itasca, IL - AIT Worldwide Logistics recently joined the International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA) arm of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), a platform for communication, networking and education for each link of the cold chain.

“After 23 years of proven leadership in the food logistics sector, this membership further validates our dedication to cold-chain expertise,” said AIT’s Vice President Strategic Accounts, Michael Rothacher. “The organizations that rely on our skillset and competencies for food safety, cold chain maintenance and brand protection will absolutely benefit from our increased access to relevant industry information, facilities and resources.”

Since 2007, the GCCA has aimed to ensure the quality of food and other temperature-controlled products. The alliance represents all major industries engaged in temperature-controlled logistics, from harvest and processing to transportation, warehousing and retail. Today the alliance has more than 1,300 member companies in 75 countries, and represents more than 1,000 facilities worldwide.

This latest move for AIT follows a recent cold-chain handling certification, as well as a major industry acquisition. In October 2018, AIT completed its acquisition of WorldFresh, a Los Angeles-based freight forwarder specializing in perishable food products, which expanded AIT’s global office network with an additional temperature-controlled handling facility. And, in August, AIT received Good Distribution Practice certification for its central cold-chain hub in Itasca, Ill., from global certification leader SGS.
