AECOM hires Major General Trogdon as North Carolina transportation lead

Oct 05, 2022

AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, announced today the appointment of retired Major General James Trogdon, P.E., as its North Carolina Transportation Lead. In this role, Trogdon will develop strategic relationships with key stakeholders and oversee the delivery of a broad range of transportation infrastructure projects spanning numerous market sectors across the state of North Carolina.

“We look forward to expanding AECOM’s reach in North Carolina under Jim’s leadership,” said Doug Tennant, southeast regional transportation leader for AECOM’s U.S. East business. “With unprecedented growth in the state, we’re thrilled to have Jim’s firsthand knowledge of the second largest state-maintained transportation system in the U.S., including North Carolina’s highway, ferry, intercity passenger rail, public transit and aviation resources. This will position him to align AECOM’s multimodal offerings to serve the entire state.”

Starting in 1985 as a highway engineer, Trogdon held several notable positions at the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) — where he most recently served as secretary from 2017 to 2020. In his new role at AECOM, Trogdon will lead a robust, full-service team with a strong foundation in the highway design, structures, rail and bus transit, aviation, transportation planning and ports/marine sectors.

“Transportation infrastructure will be crucial to managing North Carolina’s forecasted population boom over the next 30 years,” said Trogdon. “I am delighted to join AECOM and I look forward to bringing my broad spectrum of expertise to strengthen our partnerships with transportation providers across the state.”

Prior to joining AECOM, Trogdon held several private sector positions after retiring from NCDOT, including national transportation director for SAS Institute. He also worked with the North Carolina General Assembly as director of strategic transportation planning. In this role, he made recommendations and provided analysis on transportation issues, as well as drafting transportation legislation for General Assembly members. In addition, Trogdon has more than three decades of military service.
