14th Annual Port Freeport Golf Tournament holes record proceeds

Nov 26, 2025

Port Freeport’s Commission and staff proudly presented a $93,000 check to Texas Port Ministry (TPM) during the Port Commission meeting held Nov. 20, 2025. The contribution represents proceeds from the 14th Annual Port Freeport Golf Tournament hosted by Port Freeport that will directly support TPM’s mission to provide spiritual, social, and physical care to seafarers, truck drivers, and port workers who rely on their services.

The tournament, held Oct. 27 at The Wilderness Golf Course in Lake Jackson, featured a single-flight scramble and brought together more than 80 sponsors, teams, and volunteers from across the maritime transportation industry and local business community. This year’s event carries special meaning as Port Freeport celebrates its Centennial, reflecting 100 years of service, partnership, and community engagement.

“Each year, our golf tournament brings together organizations and individuals who share a commitment to supporting those who keep commerce moving through our region,” said Port Commission Chairman Rob Giesecke. “In our Centennial year, it is especially meaningful to see our community rally behind Texas Port Ministry. We are grateful to every sponsor, team, and volunteer who helped make this event another tremendous success.”

Founded in 1974, Texas Port Ministry serves the Freeport Harbor Channel community with a dedicated team of more than 40 volunteers from 20 area churches. TPM provides critical services, including port-wide transportation, comfort stations, and communications areas. Annually, the ministry supports more than 20,000 international seafarers from over 50 countries, approximately 150,000 truck drivers from across North America, and numerous local port workers. TPM is funded entirely through donations.

“Texas Port Ministry plays an essential role in supporting the people who work in and travel to our port from across the globe,” said Phyllis Saathoff, Executive Director and CEO of Port Freeport. “We are proud to continue partnering with an organization that embodies our community through service, compassion, and unbiased hospitality. My sincere thanks go to our sponsors, players, and volunteers for helping us deliver another outstanding tournament during this milestone year for Port Freeport.”

Port Freeport extends its appreciation to all sponsors, teams, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the 14th Annual Port Freeport Golf Tournament.
