At the December 19th meeting, Port Freeport’s Commission and staff proudly presented a donation of $85,000 raised through the 13th Annual Port Freeport Golf Tournament, to Chris Moore, Director of Texas Port Ministry (TPM). This contribution supports TPM’s ongoing efforts to serve seafarers, truckers, and others who rely on their critical services.
Held on November 4, 2024, at The Wilderness Golf Course in Lake Jackson, Texas, the tournament featured a single-flight scramble format. It brought together over 79 sponsors and teams from the maritime transportation industry and local businesses. Thanks to the generous support of these participants, the event raised $85,000 for TPM. The funds will directly benefit the essential services TPM provides to the Freeport Harbor Channel community.
“The Port Commission and I deeply appreciate the continued support from our sponsors, their teams, and the volunteers who give their time every year,” said Ravi Singhania, Chairman of the Port Freeport Commission. “It is a privilege to host this annual event benefiting Texas Port Ministry, and I am incredibly proud of our staff's dedication in making this year’s tournament another successful event for our community.”
Since its founding in 1974, the Texas Port Ministry has served the Freeport Harbor Channel community by providing spiritual, social, and physical care to seafarers, truck drivers, and port workers. With the help of over 40 volunteers from 20 area churches, TPM offers a range of services, including port-wide transportation, comfort stations, and communications areas. Every year, they serve over 10,000 international seafarers from more than 50 countries, 150,000 truck drivers across North America, and numerous local port workers. Their mission is sustained entirely by donations.
"The proceeds from this event will enable the Texas Port Ministry to continue their invaluable work, providing care and comfort to the many individuals who pass through our port,” said Phyllis Saathoff, Executive Director/CEO of Port Freeport. “We are grateful to all the sponsors, teams, and volunteers who made this tournament successful."
