Wallenius Marine awarded ship management contract for seven newbuildings

Feb 19, 2026

Wallenius Marine has been awarded responsibility for ship management of seven out of 14 of Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s new Shaper class RoRo newbuildings. The contract includes technical management, crewing, procurement, and operational support.

Over time, Wallenius Marine has built a strong position within ship management, with a clear focus on cost-efficient operations combined with high standards for safety, quality, and reliability.

“Our ability to operate cost-efficiently without compromising on safety or quality is highly valued by our customers. Being entrusted with responsibility for seven newbuildings confirms the strength of our way of working,” says Johan Mattsson, CEO, Wallenius Marine.

The assignment covers the establishment and commissioning of several vessels delivered successively over a limited period, starting in the second quarter of 2027. Establishing ship management in parallel for seven new vessels is a large and complex undertaking, requiring extensive planning, organization and execution capability.

“Being entrusted with responsibility for so many vessels within a short timeframe demonstrates that Wallenius Marine has the capacity to handle large-scale assignments. It is a complex project, both in scope and execution, requiring a strong organization and well-established processes,” says Niklas Blomkvist, Wallenius Marine.

The seven vessels are part of Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s total order of 14 newbuildings in the Shaper class and belong to a new generation of RoRo vessels with a focus on energy efficiency and reduced climate impact. All vessels will be equipped with dual-fuel main engines. Of the seven vessels under Wallenius Marine’s responsibility, three are prepared for methanol and four for LNG. The vessels will sail under the Maltese flag.

In addition to the ship management contract, Wallenius Marine is also responsible for site supervision during the construction of all 14 vessels in the series.
