Utah Inland Port Authority announces new project areas in Tooele County

The Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) has announced the establishment of two new project areas in Tooele County: the Tooele Valley Project Area and the Twenty Wells Project Area. These developments are key steps in UIPA's mission to foster economic growth and development within Utah.

“The Tooele Valley and Twenty Wells Project Areas are more than just economic initiatives; they are a commitment to the future of Tooele County,” said Ben Hart, executive director of UIPA. “As we develop these areas, we're not just looking at business growth; we're creating opportunities for residents to live, work, and thrive in their own community, reducing the need for out-of-county commutes and enriching local life.”

Located in northern Tooele County, the Tooele Valley Project Area covers 243 acres. It is strategically positioned to become a critical center for logistics and freight movement, with proximity to Interstate 80 and the Union Pacific Intermodal Yard. The project aligns with the city’s general plan and zoning requirements, facilitating a seamless integration into the existing infrastructure.

"While growth brings its challenges, particularly in infrastructure, these new project areas represent the incredible potential for Tooele County,” said Jared Hamner, Tooele County council chairman. “They are crucial steps in not only accommodating our rapidly growing population but also in providing opportunities for our residents to work and thrive within the county."

The Twenty Wells Project Area, spanning 498 acres in Grantsville City, is positioned to boost the region's economic landscape. Its location near Interstate 80 and access to the national rail network positions it as a vital hub for business and employment.

"Grantsville City looks forward to the commercial and industrial development that will stem from the Utah Inland Port Authority establishing new project areas in our city,” said Neil Critchlow, mayor of Grantsville City. “These project areas will provide our residents with local job opportunities, mitigating the need to commute out of the city and helping us build new parks, roads, and community gathering centers.”

Both areas reflect UIPA's collaboration with local communities. Tooele County and Grantsville City have passed resolutions supporting these developments, highlighting their potential to attract investment and create jobs.

Both project areas are expected to make significant contributions to the local economy, attracting new businesses, creating jobs, and ensuring sustainable development.
