US – Brazil protocol relating to trade rules and transparency enters into force

Feb 02, 2022

The U.S. – Brazil Protocol Relating to Trade Rules and Transparency enters into force today, following completion of internal procedures. The Protocol, signed in October 2020, modernizes the 2011 Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation (ATEC) by adding new commitments on Trade Facilitation, Good Regulatory Practices, and Anti—Corruption based on the relevant chapters of the United States-Canada-Mexico Agreement.

"The Protocol is an opportunity for Brazil to demonstrate its willingness and capacity to meet high standards for governance and transparency,” said Ambassador Jayme White. “The Protocol is a long-term investment in the bilateral relationship, and it provides a path for increased direct engagement on areas of mutual interest. The United States looks forward to continuing to work with Brazil under the ATEC on implementation and monitoring of our commitments under the Protocol.”
