The Red Sea crisis – current challenges and key consequences for the shipping industry

Apr 12, 2024

Container shipping has not become any calmer in 2024. The security situation in the Red Sea is still precarious and the rerouting of ships around the Cape of Good Hope led to a reduction of shipping capacity and rising transport costs. At the moment it is still unclear when the Red Sea passage will be safe again. Regardless of the outcome of the conflict, the high number of ship deliveries in the current year will lead to a gradual increase in transport capacity, which shipping lines will naturally be eager to fill. On top of that, labor market imbalances, geopolitical conflicts, and in some parts of the world continuous high inflation rates are putting pressure on consumer behavior.

In a virtual panel discussion, Alan Murphy, Thorsten Meincke and Rolf Habben Jansen will discuss these future challenges and how to successfully overcome them.
