The Port of New York and New Jersey posts record volume for container and rail in November 2019

The Port of New York and New Jersey hit record volumes in both rail cargo and overall container throughput for November. Total volume for November 2019 reached 599,626 TEUs (338,857 lifts), a 2.7 percent increase over the 583,880 TEUs (331,242 lifts) posted the previous year. The increase brings the yearly total to 6,886,388 TEUs.

Imports (TEUs) totaled 302,460 TEUs (171,273 lifts) in November, a 0.5 percent decrease over the 303,881 TEUs (172,839 lifts) posted in November 2018. From January through November 2019, imports at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 3,497,971 TEUs (1,985,948 lifts) versus 3,374,482 TEUs (1,927,563 lifts) recorded during the same period of 2018, a 3.7 percent increase.
Exports (TEUs) totaled 297,166 TEUs (167,584 lifts) in November, a 6.1 percent increase over the 279,963 TEUs (158,403 lifts) posted in November 2018. From January through November 2019, exports at the Port of New York and New Jersey reached 3,388,417 TEUs (1,921,303 lifts) versus 3,195,916 TEUs (1,820,965 lifts) recorded during the same period of 2018, a 6.0 percent increase.
Rail volume at the Port of New York and New Jersey increased 0.9 percent in November 2019 compared to previous year, totaling 54,096 containers. From January through November 2019, rail volume rose by 2.8 percent versus the same period of 2018.
