TAPA Americas rolls out first of its kind Freight Broker Security Requirements Standard

Jul 15, 2025

The Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Americas has officially released the Freight Broker Security Requirements (FBSR) Standard, a landmark framework designed to elevate security offerings across the freight brokerage industry. This new framework sets a critical benchmark for protecting high-value cargo and reducing supply chain risk in an increasingly complex logistics environment.

Designed specifically for brokers who arrange transportation without owning physical assets, the FBSR provides a structured, tiered approach to implementing security protocols that align with the needs of shippers and carriers.

The TAPA FBSR is one of four supply chain security certification offerings developed by TAPA to address cargo theft risk mitigation and enhance business resiliency. Amongst the other TAPA offerings are its Facility Security Requirements, Trucking Security Requirements, and Supply Chain Cyber Security Requirements.

As supply chains grow more complex and interconnected, standards are essential. Criminals are using advanced tactics to exploit vulnerabilities. They are engaging in tactics to trick shippers, brokers, and carriers into handing over cargo or soliciting fraudulent payments. Incidents include identity theft, load interception, fraudulent bills of lading, and stolen shipping information from load boards.

The Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA AMERICAS) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit association formed in 1997 to tackle the multi-billion-dollar problem of cargo thefts from supply chains. It is a coalition of manufacturers, shippers, carriers, insurers, service providers, law enforcement, and government agencies. Our members represent every type of company or organization facing cargo crime within the transportation supply chain.
