ShipChain donates petaflop of computer power to help find COVID-19 cure

Apr 02, 2020

ShipChain, a blockchain-based logistics solutions provider, announced that it is donating up to one Petaflop of computing power - approximately one quadrillion calculations per second - to assist Folding@Home scientists attempting to find the cure for the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Folding@Home is a wonderful decentralized group effort in finding effective treatments for numerous diseases and has recently become even more critical in understanding how we can effectively treat COVID-19, and for that reason we’re proud to contribute to the effort as a technology company,” said John Monarch, CEO of ShipChain.
Folding@Home is a distributed computing project for simulating protein dynamics, including the process of protein folding and the movements of proteins implicated in a variety of diseases. It hopes to figure out precisely how therapeutics can be utilized to put a stop to COVID-19.
ShipChain will compile networks and use computer simulations to help model viral proteins, such as COVID-19, in order to gain a deeper understanding of how the viruses mutate.
Additionally, ShipChain recently announced plans to waive onboarding and substantially discount their prices for any critically affected industry that wants to secure the safe and timely transport of goods via their platform.
“It is abundantly clear that now, more than ever, we must rally behind those that are doing life-saving work. ShipChain’s donation to Folding@Home will provide much needed support to the cutting-edge scientific research necessary during these uncertain times,” said Monarch.
