SeaPort Manatee promotes Glass to director of engineering, construction

John D. Glass Jr., P.E., now serves SeaPort Manatee in the position of director of engineering and construction.

As SeaPort Manatee’s new director of engineering and construction, John D. Glass Jr., P.E., is leading strategic advancement of infrastructure enhancements at the dynamic trade hub of Southwest and Central Florida.

Glass, who joined SeaPort Manatee’s management team in May 2025 as deputy director of engineering and construction, has been promoted following retirement of George Isiminger, P.E., senior director of engineering and construction, after more than 25 years at the seaport.

“SeaPort Manatee is deeply appreciative of George’s dedication to excellence for more than a quarter of a century and looks forward to John’s leadership in moving forward initiatives to bolster capabilities for efficiently handling record cargo volumes year after year,” said Carlos Buqueras, SeaPort Manatee’s executive director.

A licensed professional engineer, Glass served as a project manager and senior maritime structural engineer with global infrastructure advisory firm Moffatt & Nichol for more than 13 years prior to coming aboard at SeaPort Manatee. He is a civil engineering graduate of the University of South Florida.

At the entrance to Tampa Bay, SeaPort Manatee is the vibrant ships-to-shelves gateway for burgeoning Southwest and Central Florida markets, with direct connections to the Interstate 4 distribution corridor. With 10 deep-draft berths, the port accommodates the full spectrum of containerized, bulk and project cargo types. SeaPort Manatee annually generates $7.3 billion in economic impacts while providing for more than 42,000 direct and indirect jobs – all without local property tax support.
