In response to the unique challenges and opportunities of navigating OS/OW loads across and around railroads and utilities, SC&RA has created a Railroad & Utilities Task Force. The group will work to ensure compliance with safety, permitting, and operational rules specific to rail while advocating for industry-friendly policies. Discussions with railroads, regulators, and logistics partners will ensure the specific needs of crane and specialized transport companies are considered in rail industry decisions while enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and competitiveness. Members participating on the taskforce include: Jason Beutler, NexGen Transportation; Bryan Dubose, Roll Group; Alana Lyons, Advanced Freight Dynamics; Craig McGraw, Trans American Trucking Services; Ron Montgomery, IRH; Eric Netzel, Aldridge Electric; David Lowry and Larry Barnes, Bennett International; Kristine Kennedy, Highway Heavy Hauling; Dale Stanek, Ace Doran; Brooke Tuttle, Offload; David Womack, OXBO Mega Transport Solutions; and Marka Woodruff, Permit America.
Latest group discussions centered on the NJUNS utility notification system, which allows carriers to electronically notify utilities about planned moves but is currently only used by Georgia. Discussions also included the need to identify railroad company contacts to plan crossings. Up next, SC&RA V.P. Transportation Chris Smith and several SC&RA members will attend the Railway Industrial Clearance Association (RICA) meeting in Ft. Worth, Texas, May 21-23 to discuss industry challenges.
