Schneider highlights progress on key environmental and social initiatives in second annual report

May 20, 2022

The transportation and logistics provider’s Corporate Responsibility Report outlines continued leadership in these critical areas

Schneider says it is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and its overall environmental impact, building a diverse workforce, giving back to communities and operating responsibly and transparently. The report outlines the organization’s approach to strategic environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) initiatives and progress against related sustainability and diversity goals.

“We recognize the importance of having a positive impact and sharing our process toward our ESG goals,” said Schneider President and CEO Mark Rourke. “This year’s report highlights our continued dedication to our core values and making meaningful change that will impact our associates, communities and stakeholders.”

Key highlights from the 2021 Schneider Corporate Responsibility Report include:

Sustainability. Schneider is one of the most energy-efficient fleets on the road. The organization has achieved more than half of its 2025 emissions goal and in 2021 announced the addition of 62 Freightliner eCascadia class 8 electric trucks - a key step in building one of North America’s largest electric truck fleets and continuing to reduce emissions.

Enabling efficiency for customers. Leveraging its shipping and logistics expertise, Schneider works with customers to review network optimization, reduce empty miles, consolidate freight and pick the right mode of transportation. Schneider FreightPower® supports this commitment to shipping and logistics efficiency. FreightPower provides a single digital access point to services and solutions, combining digital analytics and user-friendly design to make it simple for customers to pick the most efficient transportation routes and modes for their needs.

Corporate culture and a continued focus on safety as a #1 priority. Schneider is dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where associates are respected and valued by expanding recruiting practices, promoting associate well-being and focusing on career advancement and retention. The company is proud to note that the number of women in leadership and driver roles increased in 2021.

Community engagement and giving. Through the Schneider Foundation, the company donated more than $2.25 million in grants to support local communities in 2021. The company’s DEI grant program, which kicked off in 2020, provided funding for diversity recruitment initiatives and partnerships with two Historically Black Colleges and Universities – Prairie View A&M and North Carolina A&T.
