Public comment period begins for Port of Seattle’s draft EA for SAMP

Oct 21, 2024

Be part of the process! A 45-day public comment period is now underway for the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Port of Seattle’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), running from October 21 to December 5, 2024.

The Puget Sound region is projected to grow by another one million people by 2035. To accommodate this growth and align with the Port’s sustainability goals, the SAMP serves as SEA’s strategic blueprint for future development. This plan includes 31 Near-Term Projects (NTPs), including a second terminal, an elevated busway, and new cargo facilities.

The public is invited to visit the SAMP website to learn more about SAMP, review the draft EA, and find out how to leave an official public comment.

The draft EA for the SAMP is a crucial step under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This process ensures that federal agencies assess the environmental impacts of proposed actions and provide opportunities for public input.

The public comment period will be open until December 5, 2024. Comments should provide sufficient detail for the agency to understand the commenter’s position and why the issues raised are important to the decision-making process. Public comments can be submitted online, by email, by regular mail, or in person at one of the four public meetings taking place in November. Language translation assistance will be available at all public meetings, in addition to childcare services.

We encourage you to visit the SAMP website to explore details about SAMP, the proposed NTPs, the NEPA process, and how to participate during the public comment period. Your feedback is valuable to us!
