Preliminary U.S. imports for consumption of steel products November 2024

The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that preliminary November steel imports were $2.3 billion (1.9 million metric tons) compared to the preliminary October totals of $2.5 billion (2.2 million metric tons).

The November change in steel imports based on metric tonnage reflected decreases in blooms, billets, and slabs and hot rolled sheets. Increases occurred in oil country goods and other metal coated sheets and strips. Decreases occurred primarily with Mexico and Canada. Increases occurred primarily with Taiwan and Argentina.

The year-to-date final statistics through October 2024 showed steel imports of 22.4 million metric tons compared with 21.8 million metric tons through October 2023. The largest commodity increases occurred with galvanized hot dipped sheets and strips. Decreases occurred with oil country goods. The largest country increases occurred primarily with Brazil. Decreases occurred primarily with Mexico.
